Description
Satatham Nong Waeng Priest's Camp Site (สำนักสงฆ์ศรัทธาธรรมหนองแวง) is a bucolic Buddhist retreat in the Sakon Nakhon farmlands. It has a large pond and woodsy path, providing a quiet place for meditation and relaxation. A temple building is currently under construction (2022) that looks like it will be very beautiful, as Sakon Nakhon temple buildings so often are.
Within the temple building that is under construction, a large gold Buddha statue has already been placed. Some might think is unusual. But the Buddha statue must be placed within the building to start, as there would be no way to bring in the statue after the structure was completed. The sacred statue also confers its blessing upon the construction workers as they complete their task.
It's often difficult to attempt translating Thai temple names into English accurately, but the name of this "priest's camp" might be translated to The Bog Monastery of Natural Faith (or something close to that). Such a name is fitting for a lowland temple in Sakon Nakhon (susceptible to floods), built amidst natural settings in a region known for helping to establish the Forest Tradition (or "natural faith" tradition) of Buddhism in Thailand.
If you are looking for additional temples that are close by to Satatham Nong Waeng Priest's Camp Site, you will find Wat Pa Nong Waen (known for its paintings of Phra Rahu) only 4 kilometers away.
