Description
The Satit Ket Kaew Udom Dharma Practice Center (ศูนย์ปฏิบัติธรรมแปลงสาธิตเกศแก้วอุดมธรรม) is a new Buddhist site which was completed in early 2022. It is located about a kilometer past the forest temple Wat Pa Wiwek Chanthraram, which is well worth a visit, and is approximately 25 minutes from the Sakon Nakhon City Gate.
As the name suggests, Satit Ket Kaew Udom Dharma Practice Center is not a temple, but rather a site in which to learn and practice the Dharma, which is the universal truths of all individuals at all times, as revealed by the teachings of the Buddha. Not surprisingly, the focus of the center is a large gold statue of the Buddha, which we would reckon stands about 8 meters high, with a smaller gold Buddha statue positioned in front of it.
The Buddha statues are both in the pose of the Bhumisparsha Mudra, which symbolizes the triumph of the Dharma over the inner demons of earthly temptation. Behind the Buddha statues is a thick row of rubber trees, as well as banana trees. There are solar lights on the grounds to light up the area at night, as well as power irrigation. A large pavilion has been built where the monks deliver the Dharma to local practitioners.
If you stop by Wat Pa Wiwek Chanthraram before visiting the Dharma Practice Center, keep traveling on the dirt road that runs parallel to the canal. If you are traveling on the main road (Route 2033), you can park on the side of the road and walk across an attractive wood bridge with gold railings to get to the Center.
