The Best Learn Thai Podcast and YouTube Channel

I am often asked what the best podcast or YouTube channel is for learning Thai. My usual answer is to use as many different Thai language resources as possible, because all Thai podcasts, books, and videos have something useful to offer, and it is best to immerse yourself in a wide variety of material.

However, time is limited. Many people have busy lives and want to find the best Learn Thai podcast to listen to while driving in the car, taking a walk, exercising, or doing some chores. The problem these learners have with Thai podcasts and Youtube channels is that they:

1) Waste too much time talking in English to provide background info;

2) Don’t have built in, easy to read, transcripts in Thai script and English transliteration;

3) Don’t repeat the targeted Thai word, phrase, or sentence enough times. Thus the learner is forced to either skip back 15 seconds on their podcast app, or stop what they are doing to consult the transcript (if it is available).

However, there is one Learn Thai YouTube Channel I just discovered which has none of these issues. It is without question the best Thai language podcast to listen to while driving, exercising, or doing some other activity. The channel is Thai Lessons by New.

Khun New’s learn Thai language videos are excellent for Beginner and Intermediate Thai language learners. Her most popular videos are her compilation “100” videos, like 100 Handy Thai Phrases, 100 Most Common Thai Nouns, and 100 Questions & Answers and Thais.

While these are videos, you don’t need to actually watch them. They have been perfectly constructed to listen to while your walking, driving, or doing something else. Khun New repeats her target words, phrases and sentences at least 4 times (including breaking phrases and sentences into parts), making it easy to model them without having to look at your phone to read the transcript, or hit the 15 second back button.

She also spends only a minimum amount of time talking in English, just enough to explain quickly any needed context or point. So, you can dive into one of her 100 compilation videos and complete the lesson in 15-45 minutes (depending on the topic).

For beginners, Khun New does include the Thai script and English transliteration, so you can watch the video if additional pronunciation guidance is needed. And in the video description area, she provides a handy list of all the Thai words, phrases, or sentences covered in her videos, making it easy to quickly review what you learned.

In addition to the compilation learning videos, she has dozens of short Thai language podcasts (videos), covering topics like Forming Thai Sentences in 15 Minutes, Useful Thai Idioms, Common Mistakes, 25 Thai Words with Heart, a Magic Thai Words series (words which give clues to what other Thai words mean), and much more.

So, I can’t say enough about Khun New’s learn Thai YouTube channel. Well done, Khun New!!
