Description
Si Sawang Bun Wara Ram Priest's Camp Site (สำนักสงฆ์ศรีสว่างบุญวราราม) is a "samnak song" or Buddhist monastery, located in the Sakon Nakhon countryside near the temple Wat Si Panyaram, about 30 minutes from the Sakon Nakhon city. A priest's campsite (samnak song) can range from being very simple forest grounds with a few ramshackle huts for the Buddhists monk to stay in to something more on the order of a proper Thai temple.
Si Sawang Bun Wara Ram Priest's Camp Site is one which is closer in development to a Thai temple, the grounds including a rustic Viharn with beautiful statues of the Buddha and miniature Yasha guardians at the entrance. It also has an operating crematorium.
Like many "samnak song" Si Sawang Bun Wara Ram Priest's Camp Site has a lovely garden area. What makes this one unusual is the many unique small statues that decorate the garden, including ones we have never seen at any other Thai temple or samnak song in Sakon Nakhon. There are also open sheds, one which holds several Thai racing boats (which we expect are used during the yearly boat races on Non Han Lake), and another sheltering a vintage wooden cart, which likely was attached in the past to a water buffalo.
