Description
Wat Non Sawan (วัดโนนสวรรค์) is a quaint, village temple in Phanna Nikhom, not to be confused with Luang Pu Phu Phan Priest's Camp Site, which also goes by the name Wat Non Sawan. This lovely temple is notable for its old Viharn or Ordination Hall, which is covered with traditional, Isaan folk art and we reckon to be over 100 years old.
Wat Non Sawan also has on display a replica of Phra Phuttha Chinnarat (พระพุทธชินราช), which is considered one of the most classically beautiful Buddha statues in all of Thailand. Housed at Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat in Phitsanulok, Phra Phuttha Chinnarat ("King of Victory") is revered as highly as the Luang Pho Sothon statue at Wat Sothonwararam in Chachoengsao. In most people's eyes, only the Emerald Buddha is revered higher.
Wat Non Sawan is located about 30 minutes from Sakon Nakhon city, in the direction of Udon Thani, and only about 5 minutes from Wat Chaeng Saeng Arun (with its enormous collection of Buddhist and Hindu statues), which is nearby the famous "zombie village" of Ban Na Sao Nan.
