Description
Wat Pa Ban Khok Sawang (วัดป่าบ้านโคกสว่าง) is a small rural temple located a short distance from Wat Sawang Tek Somboon, with its beautiful collection of Buddhist statues, including Guanyin with 18 Arms. This Sakon Nakhon temple however does not have much in the way of religious statues or figurines, except for a small shrine that seems abandoned on the empty 2nd floor of the Viharn.
The main artistic attraction of Wat Pa Ban Khok Sawang is a beautiful Ubosot, and lovely white archways that lead into the fenced in area around the ordination hall. On one side of the building are a collection 9 iron balls, which unfortunately don't seemed to be cared for in a proper fashion.
These sacred balls are known as "luk nimit" (ลูกนิมิตร), and they are placed under the Sima Stones of an Ubosot. When you see Luk Nimit (also spelled Look Nimit) on the side of an Ubosot, these are ordinarily ones from an Ubosot that no longer exists. These should be cared for reverently, as you see at the Sakon Nakhon temple Wat Klang.
There are several wooden Kutis (monk huts) on the temple grounds, but we didn't see any Thai monks during our visit, which left us wondering if there is a shortage of monks at this particular Thai temple.
