Description
Home Up Cafe in Sakon Nakhon (สกลนคร) is a new upscale coffee house, with a pond, paddle boats, and swings. It is located in Tambon Phang Khwang, about 15 minutes from downtown. It's a lovely place to relax outdoors with an iced coffee or in the air-conditioned cafe with a hot Thai tea or espresso. While the ambiance is upscale, the prices are inexpensive. For example, a caramel cappuccino only costs 50 baht, the same price you would pay at a more downscale Sakon Nakhon coffeehouse.
The only drawback to Home Up Cafe is that when the place gets busy, the service slows down to a snail's pace. On a recent visit, after waiting 20 minutes for a cappuccino, we were told that we would have to wait another 30 minutes — which of course is far beyond how long most people are willing to wait for a coffee. So, we would recommend not visiting on Saturday or Sunday afternoons, when the place is typically quite busy, or if you happen to see a lot of cars in the parking circle that surrounds the pond. If this situation changes and they hire more baristas to handle the busy periods, we'll update this profile.
In addition to typical coffeehouse drinks, there is also a small selection of sweets, such as chocolate cake and cashew toffee cake. If you are in this area around 5pm, you might also visit the nearby Huai Sai reservoir to take in a beautiful sunset.
