Description
Kuai-tiao Gai Mara Taipu (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวไก่มะระ ไทภู) is one of the best Sakon Nakhon noodle shops that specializes in Kuai-tiao served with a chicken leg. There are some tourists who say that they don't like Thai noodle soup (spelled Kuai-tiao, Guaitio, Kway Teow or Guay Tiew), but usually this is because they have tried it without adding the appropriate condiments that are on the table to achieve maximum deliciousness.
At Kuai-tiao Gai Mara Taipu, this is what I do. First I order a "pee set" bowl, which means I get it with two chicken legs rather than one (price 50 baht). Then I add the following condiments: about a tablespoon of "sawt prik" (the bottle of not so spicy red sauce), a teaspoon of vinegar, a teaspoon of fish sauce, a teaspoon of sugar, and a tablespoon of nuts. You can vary the amount you use depending on if you want it sweeter, saltier, or more sour. You could also add red pepper flakes if you want it spicier. If you would like to order your bowl without noodles, this is what is called "gao lao".
Kuai-tiao Gai Mara Taipu is located only about 100 meters from the Sakon Nakhon clock tower. If you are at the clock tower facing the direction of Big C, turn right at the traffic light and the noodle shop will be about 70 meters up the road on the right hand side. Further up the road on the left hand side is our favorite Sakon Nakhon veterinarian.
