Description
Phu Mai Ruak Reservoir (อ่างเก็บน้ำภูไม้รวก) is only about 1.5 kilometers from the Tad Hai Yai Reservoir, which is just down the road from the Phu Phan Development Study Center and Queen Sirikit Sericulture Center. This Sakon Nakhon reservoir is similar in size to the Tad Hai Yai reservoir and also feeds water into the study centers and homesteads of local villagers.
We believe the Phu Mai Ruak Reservoir and its surrounding woods to be a little more beautiful than its neighbor reservoir. According to locals, the fishing often is a little better here, as well. There are some trails around the reservoir which are suitable for a nature hike and having a picnic.
The Phu Mai Ruak Reservoir is only about 500 meters from the Wat Pa Phu Mai Ruak temple, which sits on a hilltop and is surrounded by forests. The Buddhist temple isn't easily accessible from the reservoir by foot, but it can be done by the adventurous soul with a little guidance from Google Maps.
It takes about 20 minutes from Sakon Nakhon city to reach this area, which is lovely to travel around via motorbike.
