Description
Sa Phang Thong (สระพังทอง) is a small lake or large pond, which translated means The Golden Pond. It is located next to Suan Somdet Phrasinakarin Park. As with the Somdet Park, there is a nice path circling the water where downtown Sakon Nakhon folk go to walk, jog, and take in the fresh air. There is also outdoor exercise equipment to use. Because it opens at 5am (much earlier than Somdet Park), this is where people go to exercise in the morning before work.
Sa Phang Thong is also a popular place to celebrate Loy Krathong in October. However, expect to park far away (or go very early) for the Loy Krathong celebrations, because it gets packed with people. Across the street from the lake there are several small (but good) Thai restaurants and coffee houses, including the Wise Cafe, which offers some nice pastries.
