Description
About 28 kilometers from the Sakon Nakhon City Gate, on Nittayo Rd. (Route 22), you'll arrive at at series of roadside melon stands selling delicious, fresh cantaloupes grown at nearby farms. That's why this area is nicknamed "Melon Road" by locals. But on Google Maps you will find it labeled as บ้านแตงแคนตาลูป (Ban Dtaeng Cantaloop), which translates to the Cantaloupe Melon House.
Sakon Nakhon cantaloupes are currently being sold by all the stands for 100 baht for 4 kilos. The stands seem to agree on what the price will be, as the pricing for the cantaloupe is uniform at each place. All the melon stands will offer a free taste, if you want to check out just how delicious the cantaloupes are. We've bought melons from various different stands, and the taste is usually quite similar. So, unless the taste is distinctively off, or not quite sweet enough for you, we suggest buying from the 1st vendor that you take a free taste.
In addition to cantaloupes, there are also stands selling seedlings for trees and flowers, indoor plants like ferns, and other small plants, as well as garden ornaments. If you are traveling to go see Wat Kham Pramong, you'll just need to travel a little ways past the turn off from Route 22 that takes you to the temple to buy some of these delicious, and cheap melons.
