Description
11 October is a cafe and coffeehouse located at Happy Farm (ฟาร์มสุข), which is part of Thailand's Natural Farming Network that is following the New Theory Agriculture practices laid out by King Bhumibol the Great (His Majesty King Rama IX). The cafe has been temporarily closed for a few months, so don't be misled by their Facebook page which says they are currently open. It is unclear when they will open again, so you want to wait until we update this listing or when they make a opening announcement post on their Facebook page.
When they do open again, 11 October Cafe will be a lovely place to visit. It's located deep in the countryside of the Nong Lat sub-district, about 30 minutes north of the Sakon Nakhon airport. Items that they served in the past included unique items for a Sakon Nakon coffeehouse, such as Iced Orange, Iced Coconut, and Iced Honey Americano coffees. They also served some baked goods, such as croissants.
The Happy Farm that surrounds 11 October Cafe provides a beautiful ambiance, including a small waterfall and garden area next to the cafe. Happy Farm is not only a farm but an agricultural learning center that follows and promotes King Bhumibol's New Theory of Agriculture, which he established in 1994. According to the New Theory, Thai farming families can become self-reliant by serving both the local and national economies, following an integrated system of sustainable agriculture, paying close attention to water resource development and conservation, and soil rehabilitation.
Happy Farm is applying these practices in growing bananas, as well as herbs such as jasmine which it can use in the 11 October Cafe and sell locally. The farm has a large bank of solar panels next to its pond, and its agriculture looks very smartly organized.
If you pay a visit to 11 October Cafe and are looking for another place to visit in the area, we would recommend Arun Lat Priest's Camp Site, which is about 10 minutes north of the cafe or Wat Nong Bua Sang, which is about 7 minutes southwest.
