Description
Ysaan Garden Bar is a cool little bar on the edge of a small village in Sakon Nakhon. Located about 10 minutes northwest of Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University, the bar is only about a kilometer from the popular Huai Sai Reservoir.
The bar serves a small selection of beer, which includes Singha, Budweiser, and less expensive Thai beers of the week, such as Cheers X-tra and Chang, among others, as well as a limited choice of spirits like gin, vodka, rice whiskey, SangSom, and Regency. The food menu includes staples like Pad Thai, Raad Naa, Pad Kaprao, and a delicious pulled chicken sandwich.
Everything is attractively (low) priced, as the bar is primarily visited by villagers in the surrounding area, as well as students and teachers from SNRU.
Ysaan Garden Bar has an outside area overlooking rice fields that stretch toward the Phu Phan Mountains in the distance. Still being landscaped, this “garden” area features a pond, a swing, seating, and a sala in which to relax while enjoying your drinks and food.
The inside, air-conditioned area of this chill Sakon Nakhon bar has sofas and a beautiful vintage bench. As a sister business of Ysaan Books, publisher of Why Thailand, Poems from Sakon Nakhon, and Life Lessons from Isaan by Ajarn David, the bar is decorated with poetry artwork by the author, and his books are on display for sale.
Ysaan Garden Bar is officially open from 11 am to 6 pm every day of the week except Tuesdays. However, they do occasionally open earlier and close later, depending on availability.
The bar can also be rented out in the evening for small, private events. One popular feature for private events is a large round table with a mookrata grilling pit in the center that can seat eight.
