Technic Phuphan Swimming Pool (สระว่ายน้ำเทคนิคภูพาน) is one of only two large public swimming pool in Sakon Nakhon that is currently open — as the pool at Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University is currently closed with no re-opening date set. The other public swimming pool is the Aloha Water Park, which is much bigger and with larger slides.
This Sakon Nakhon swimming pool is found within the Technic Phuphan Technical College, which is located less than a kilometer from the Sakon Nakhon Clock Tower.
If you are traveling toward the clock tower from center city Sakon Nakhon, you will turn left at the traffic lights in front of the tower. Then, go up the road around 600 meters, passing the technical college on left, and take the first u-turn to get back to the college. Turn left at the entrance, and go down the driveway. The swimming pool is located at the end of the drive, directly across from the roundabout.
In recent years, the Technic Phuphan Swimming Pool has been expanded and developed to include a couple medium-sized slides, becoming something closer to a Sakon Nakhon water park, rather than just a swimming pool. Thus it is now more attractive to families with children. Even so, the pool is usually not overcrowded, except sometimes on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
The swimming pool is open 9:30am - 7pm, seven days a week, during the hot season when school's not in session. If you are an older person, looking to swim laps, it would be best to go in the morning, right after the pool opens, or around 6pm, on weekdays. Note the hours do change at different times of the year, so be sure to check their business listing on Google for current hours when school is in session.
The price of admission is 60 baht. There are floating devices available for rent, as well as swimming suits.
