Description
Wat Pa Nong Song Hong (วัดป่าหนองสองห้อง) is a small, out-of-the-way Sakon Nakhon temple where many local people go to seek good fortune. The temple is home to a well-known monk named Luang Pu Bua Rien (หลวงปู่บัวเรียน). There are many amulets sold with his likeness, which are collected as good luck charms by the devout.
Interestingly, there are two dedication plaques with Italian names below the two 3 headed Naga sculptures at the entrance to the temple. These plaques are dedicated to deceased family members and were accompanied by large donations to the temple. One suspects that these are two Italian men with Thai wives in Sakon Nakhon, as such large donations are not uncommon among the expat community who have married here.
If you are dropping by Home Up Cafe for a morning coffee, afterward you can take a lovely scenic drive through the rice fields and countryside to arrive at Wat Pa Nong Song Hong. It is only about 10 minutes from the cafe. Then from there, you could head towards Kasetsart University and the Chaloem Phrakiat Lotus Park, which is only about another 15 minute drive.
