Description
Wat Pho Kham (วัดโพธิ์คำ) is a Buddhist temple located in the village of Ban Na Hua Bo, Phanna Nikhom. It is located off of Route 2016 on the way to Wat Suwan Thadaram and Satit Ket Kaew Udom Dharma Practice Center, which are just 2km and 3km kilometers away, respectively.
Be careful not to confuse Wat Pho Kham in Sakon Nakon with the more famous temple of Wat Noi Pho Kham in the neighboring province of Nakhon Phanom, which is noted for its big Buddha image called "King Borommatrailokkanat". This Wat Pho Kham doesn't have any well-known tourist attractions, But it doesn have that rural charm of so many small Sakon Nakhon temples, with a teak pillared Viharn, an ornate Ubosot with interesting architecture, and vintage wooden carts on the temple grounds.
Wat Pho Kham's Ubosot may technically not be an ordination hall, because there are no Sema stones around the building, but it has all of the ornate architecture of one. Beside the entrance, next to a statue of the Buddha with walking stick, there is a mural (a bit weather beaten) of Hanuman engaged in battle. Hanuman (a loyal soldier to Lord Rama) is one of main heroes the famous epic, Ramakien, which is the Thai version of the Hindu epic Ramayana. It tells the story of Phra Ram's quest to rescue his beloved wife Sida from the clutches of the demon king Tosakanth of Lanka with the help of an army of monkeys.
