Description
When traveling along Highway 2355 on your way to Wat Kham Pramong, if you go a few kilometers past the turn off to Wat Kham Pramong, you'll arrive at Wat Santi Sangkharam (วัดสันติสังฆาราม), the home of Luang Pu Buakhai Santachitto (หลวงปู่่บัวไข สนฺตจิตฺโต), the grandson of the famous Sakon Nakhon monk Luang Pu Sim Phuttajaro (หลวงปู่สิมพุทฺธาจาโร), who was a disciple of Ajahn Mun, the co-founder of the Thai Forest tradition of Buddhism in Thailand.
In 1937, Luang Pu Sim established a temple on the grounds where Wat Santi Sangkharam exists today. Then, in 1975 the gorgeous Ubosot was built and the current temple formally established. His living quarters still exist on the grounds, which includes a large forested area which you can walk through.
Wat Santi Sangkharam also has a beautiful white Chedi, which includes a glass encased sculpture of Luang Pu Sim, Ajahn Mun, and two other monks revered in Northeastern Thailand. This Chedi (or Pagoda) is especially attractive at night when it is lit up. Directly across the highway from the temple, you'll see a small village temple called Wat Sa Phang Thong, with a pair of black elephants with long white tusks greeting you at the entrance gate.
