Vithidham School Holds After School Music Festival

The Vithidham School in Sakon Nakhon held a music festival on the evening of February 2nd. Vithidham is known as a “Way of the Dharma” school, which provides students with both moral training and practical skills via field trips throughout Sakon Nakhon Province.

The Vithidham School aims to create well-rounded students, and that includes music instruction in both modern Western instruments and traditional Thai instruments. The after-school music festival gave students a chance to show off their musical skills in a fun atmosphere.

There was a large outdoor stage on which students performed, and the Vithidham School’s beautiful grounds were filled with Thai food vendors. Hundreds of visitors came to enjoy the festival, including many students and teachers from the adjacent Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University (which funds and manages the Vithidham School).

The school conducts English training, which is directed by the Secondary School head Chorlada Suppaso, and each year several Western volunteers are recruited to help teach English. One of the Western teachers took part in the music festival, singing a rendition of John Denver’s “Country Roads,” a fitting song for the lovely rural province of Sakon Nakhon.
