Description
Gypsy Coffee Drip Cafe (กาแฟดริปยิปซี) is an eclectic Sakon Nakhon coffeehouse with a vintage feel. The rustic interior is filled with collectables and old, salvaged items, including old tins, signs, dolls, boxes, and dilapidated car front turned into a sofa chair. Beautiful vintage style wooden tables and chairs add to the "gypsy" ambiance, and provide a perfect setting to enjoy the cafe's delicious coffee drinks and teas.
Gypsy Coffee Drip Cafe also sets a chilled, relaxed setting with its excellent choice of Thai folk music, much like the Art Hopper Cafe does in Sakon Nakhon city. And like the Art Hopper, Gypsy Coffee Drip attracts a clientele of local artists, musicians, crafts people, and business professionals who enjoy products made by artisanal food and drink makers.
In addition to its unique hand-roasted coffee drinks, Gypsy Coffee Drip Cafe makes delicious baked goods such as brownies and cheesecakes, as well as items that are often hard to find in Sakon Nakhon, such as cinnamon rolls with raisins and homemade apple pie. However, the availability of baked goods is always changing, and certain items sometimes quickly sell out, so if you are going there to indulge your sweet tooth, it would be a good idea to check the Gypsy Coffee Facebook page to see what current baked goods they are promoting.
Gypsy Coffee Drip Cafe is located about 20 minutes from the Sakon Nakhon City Gate on Highway 22 in the direction of Udon Thani. The cafe is quite hidden off a side road that runs parallel to the highway. So, if you use Google Maps, pay attention when you get to within a kilometer or so of the cafe, and be sure to turn slightly off the highway onto the parallel running side road.
After visiting the cafe, we would suggest traveling up the highway another 5 kilometers before taking a u-turn back to Sakon Nakhon. In that 5km stretch, you'll find 3 lovely village temples to visit: Wat Sai Thong (with its unusual Shiva and Reclining Buddha statues), Wat Klang (with it gorgeous new Ubosot), and Wat Rattaphum (with its beautiful teak Buddha sculpture).
