Description
Sakon Nakhon has several good Japanese restaurants, but our current favorite is Keshiki Relax (เคชิกิ รีแลกซ์) in the downtown area. For a Japanese restaurant in Northeastern Thailand, we rate Keshiki Relax as excellent in all respects. They prepare very tasty Japanese food made with fresh ingredients. The menu of Japanese dishes is large, including many types of sushi and sashimi; various ramen noodle soups, Donburi (rice bowls) and Japanese salads; and Omakase sets and Yakiniku (grilled meat). There are also some Thai dishes.
Usually we are not a fan of really big menus (at Thai or Japanese restaurants), because usually it's hit or miss whether you are ordering an item the chefs are really good at. But every dish we have ever ordered at Keshiki Relax we would rate good to excellent. They are one of the few places in Sakon Nakhon where you can get Japanese Wagyu beef, so you can taste test how the famous local Pon Yang Kham beef stacks up against its Japanese rival.
If you are visiting with a young child who is a finicky eater and you worry that you won't find anything on the menu that they will eat, the restaurant does offer a large plate of tasty cheese fries, which while not the healthiest dish should keep your child satisfied while you sample the delicious Japanese fare.
The service at Keshiki Relax is also very good, and one can see that they have been professionally trained. The dishes we have ordered always have been delivered quickly. However, it must be said that we always have visited when they are not too busy. This is a small Japanese restaurant in an old city house, so if you come at the height of lunch or dinner time (12pm and 5pm) you can expect a longer wait and shouldn't really complain about it.
The best times to visit Keshiki Relax so that your Japanese dishes arrive to the table in the quickest time are at 11am for lunch, and at 4pm or between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm for dinner.
