Description
Everything about Khai Long (ไคลอง) speaks of Japan: the decor, the cherry blossoms, the lanterns, and figurines. Everything except the menu, which is mostly pizza! There are no Japanese dishes on the menu, although it seems like they at one time served sushi. Now they serve a uniquely Thai variety of pizzas, including Pad Thai Pizza, Curry Powder Pizza, Masaman Pizza, and Anchovy E-san Pizza. So, we are recommending this Sakon Nakhon cafe simply for the weird irony of dining in what looks entirely like a Japanese restaurant but eating pizza instead.
Khai Long is referred to as Cafe&Pizza on Google Maps, and it is located on Route 22 in the Tha Rae District of Sakon Nakhon. Look for it on the left side if you are coming back to Sakon Nakhon city after visiting Tha Rae's famous St. Michael's Cathedral. There are also a few pasta dishes on the menu and some simple Thai dishes, but pizza is the order of the day here. At least for now. Perhaps they will bring back their Japanese menu items in the future. They also have serve coffee and a delicious lemon iced tea.
Many people visit Khai Long to take photos in their Japanese style garden, and supposedly there is sometimes a small fee to take photos there. But we were not charged anything. We would suspect that as long as you are ordering drinks or food, you can take photos in the garden for free.
