Description
The Kram & Craft Festival in Sakon Nakhon (เทศกาลเมืองครามสกลนคร) is one of Thailand's best festivals for handcrafted Indigo dyed clothing, handwoven fashion and baskets, Thai wines and beverages, and more. Sakon Nakhon has been recognized by the World Crafts Council as a "World Craft City for Natural Indigo" and a world city for many types of traditional Isaan handicrafts.
The Kram & Craft Festival is being held at the Robinson Lifestyle Mall in downtown Sakon Nakhon, with exhibitions, craft vendors, workshops, and special events from May 19th -21st (2023). Demonstrations of indigo dyeing, cotton spinning, embroidery, and indigo painting can be enjoyed by visitors, as well as performances of traditional Thai dance and music concerts.
The Kram & Craft Festival will feature expert speakers from Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University and Kasetsart University (Chaloem Phra Kiat Campus) who will deliver talks about Thailand's creative economy and the textile industry. Foreign tourists will be happy to know that some of the vendors do speak English and welcome the opportunity to talk with you about their handmade products.
Crafts vendors can be found on both the 1st and 2nd floors of the Robinson Lifestyle Mall, but the majority of vendors and the exhibitions are on the 2nd floor, near the Movie Theater. Prices are very reasonable and, in many cases, the items are offered at a sale's price. When purchasing multiple items, don't be shy about haggling.
Clothing vendors include some of Sakon Nakhon's most notable Indigo fashion designers, including Mann Craft and KramSakon.
