Description
Pupanha Garden (สวนภูพานเฮ) is a Sakon Nakhon farm primarily dedicated to growing and promoting the Pupanha tree, which is native to Latin America and also known as a peach palm tree. The plant was brought in and cultivated by Ajarn Krit Chaksen. The tree serves a dual purpose in that it can be planted as an ornamental tree that grows upwards to 60 feet high, and it produces a sweet delicious fruit that is like a chestnut which can be eaten after it is heated. It is a very high energy fruit that has many more beta carotene than carrots.
Pupanha (or Peach Palms) can also be cultivated for hearts of palm, as the tree produces continuous sprouts at the base which can be repeatedly harvested. Ajarn Krit sells delicious jarred hearts of palm at the farm, so you can get a taste of what you will eventually be harvesting yourself!
Pupanha Garden is located not too far away from Huai Sai Reservoir, so it will be easy to drop by to buy a few trees if you are out at the reservoir exercising on the bike path. They are sold at sizes from small to large, making them affordable to your budget.
