Description
Wat Non Chonlaprathan Rang Srit (วัดโนนชลประทานรังสฤษฎิ์) is a small temple in the village where the MySakonNakhon.com offices are located. Being so close by to us, we have watched as this temple (like so many rural temples in Sakon Nakhon) has gradually acquired some beautiful outdoor statues, improved their gated entrance and grounds, and become more and more a temple that attracts some visitors beyond the people of the village.
Two relatively recent acquisitions are the two lion statues which guard the entrance to the temple, as well as two tall Buddha statues on the grounds. One of the statues includes a 5 tiered parasol above the Buddha's head, symbolizing the 5 moral precepts which the Buddhist layperson is supposed to follow: 1) Do not kill or harm; 2) Do not steal or commit fraud; 3) Do not commit adultery; 4) Do not lie or speak maliciously; and 5) Do not drink or do drugs.
While one might not make a trip solely to visit Wat Non Chonlaprathan Rang Srit, it is worth dropping by if you are visiting the nearby Huai Sai Reservoir, with its long (solar-lit) bike and walking path. And if you are hungry, you can get a great Khao Man Gai, Khao Kha Moo, or Noodle Soup at Ban Non Noodle shop, which is just 20 meters away, or call Fat Mango Pizza for a delicious take-away pizza — they are located down the alley opposite the the temple.
