Description
The M.J. Majestic Hotel is the most well-known hotel in downtown Sakon Nakhon. It is a nice, inexpensive hotel for being in such a convenient downtown location, walking distance from many restaurants and markets, as well as the Big C Shopping Center and a Pizza Company. The rooms are under 1000 baht a night, and as you might expect, quite basic, but clean and tidy. The beds are hard, as is typical of many Thai hotels. Also there are no English language channels on the television, which also is typical of budget hotels in Thailand, and the breakfast buffet (like to the rooms) is very basic.
I would recommend asking for a room facing the street, so you can take in the city view. Although downtown, you need not worry about any noise to disrupt your sleep. A bonus is that the M.J. Majestic Hotel has quite a nice gym for an upcountry hotel, which you can use for free. The staff is friendly and attentive, but note that they are primarily accustomed to dealing with Thai tourists, and their English language skills will usually be quite limited, and sometimes non-existent. But if you are patient, and use Google translate, you'll have no problem communicating with them, and having them find you a rental car or taxi if you need one.
