Description
Wat Sawang Rattanaram (วัดสว่างรัตนาราม) is one of two temples located in the Sakon Nakhon village of Ban Non Chon Prathan, the other temple being Wat Non Chonlaprathan Rang Srit. This quaint temple is only a few hundred meters from the Huai Sai Reservoir and 4.5 kilometers from Anajak Het Boon Song (Wat Noi Hua Khu), a temple which attracts more local tourists.
Wat Sawang Rattanaram, like many rural Sakon Nakhon temples, has developed quite a bit over the past 15 years, adding new Buddhist sculptures and paintings. The paintings at rural Thai temples often can be quite roughly done, but the ones seen here demonstrate a more highly developed skill. We especially liked the painting of the Reclining Buddha, which we will be adding to our collection of Sakon Nakhon Reclining Buddhas.
Wat Sawang Rattanaram's temple grounds also have on display a delightful trio of hermit monk sculptures, tiger sculptures, and statues of the Buddha in various poses, including the popular Buddha statue with umbrella and walking stick. There is also an artfully designed crematorium at the temple, which is regularly in use.
